PRESS RELEASE
Nairobi, Kenya – 5 March 2026
The Sugar Sector Transporters Association of Kenya (SSTAK) and Translog Group Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on a series of educational seminars focused on fleet asset lifecycle management for transporters serving Kenya’s sugar industry.
The partnership establishes a structured knowledge-sharing platform through which SSTAK members will access technical insights on fleet acquisition, financing, efficiency, vehicle maintenance planning, safety management, fuel monitoring, and modern fleet technologies. The seminars will be delivered jointly by SSTAK and Translog Group, with Translog as a dedicated knowledge partner supporting the professional development of transport operators within the sugar value chain.
The initiative recognizes the central role transporters play in the movement of sugar cane and processed sugar across Kenya and the operational challenges that fleet owners face in sustaining reliable logistics services.
The Sugar Sector Transporters Association of Kenya represents transport operators engaged in the movement of raw sugar cane from farms to mills and refined sugar from processing plants to wholesale and retail markets across Kenya. The association brings together fleet owners, logistics contractors, and transport entrepreneurs operating within the country’s sugar production zones including Western Kenya, Nyanza, and parts of the Rift Valley.
Sugar transportation in Kenya is a highly specialized segment of the logistics industry. Transporters often operate in rural agricultural zones where road infrastructure is limited and seasonal weather conditions can significantly affect accessibility. Cane harvesting schedules also create intense logistical pressure, requiring trucks to move rapidly between farms and mills to prevent delays that can compromise sugar recovery rates during processing.
In addition, sugar transporters face a range of structural and operational challenges. Rising fuel prices, escalating costs of spare parts and tyres, regulatory compliance requirements such as axle load limits, and the maintenance demands of aging truck fleets have increased the cost of operations for many transport companies. Downtime caused by mechanical failures or poor maintenance planning can disrupt supply chains and reduce profitability for fleet operators.
Against this backdrop, SSTAK has increasingly prioritized knowledge development and professional capacity building for its members as a means of improving operational sustainability and industry standards.
Through the newly signed MoU, Translog Group Ltd will support SSTAK by contributing technical expertise and industry insights related to modern fleet management practices. The educational seminars will explore practical areas such as total cost of ownership of commercial vehicles, predictive maintenance planning, fuel management systems, driver behaviour monitoring, safety technologies, and the integration of telematics in fleet operations.
Translog Group is a technology-driven provider of solutions focused on improving operational efficiency, safety, and asset visibility for organizations operating fleets and industrial equipment. The company delivers solutions spanning telematics and fuel management systems, safety technologies, industrial IoT platforms, and systems integration that enable organizations to monitor assets, improve operational control, and reduce operational risks.
By leveraging connected technologies and data analytics, Translog works with fleet operators, logistics companies, and industrial organizations to improve operational performance and decision-making across mobility, safety, and asset management systems.
Under the SSTAK collaboration, Translog Group’s role will focus specifically on knowledge dissemination and industry education, helping sugar transporters better understand the lifecycle economics of fleet assets and how technology-driven solutions can improve asset longevity, operational safety, and cost control.
The seminars are expected to create an industry forum where transporters can exchange operational experiences, learn from technology providers, and explore new approaches to managing fleet assets in a challenging operating environment.
For SSTAK members, the initiative represents an opportunity to strengthen operational resilience at a time when logistics efficiency is becoming increasingly important for the competitiveness of Kenya’s sugar sector. Reliable transportation directly influences the movement of cane to mills, the timely distribution of refined sugar, and the overall stability of the sugar supply chain.
The SSTAK–Translog collaboration therefore seeks not only to improve fleet management practices among individual transport operators but also to contribute to the broader modernization of logistics within Kenya’s sugar industry.
